Hey' I don't use this account much to post anything about my current aquarium however I must say your methods have inspired me greatly. I did a little collecting diving trip to the FL KEYS about a month ago now. where I collected a wide range of marine vascular plants (not macro algae-although these were also collected in moderation) MAINLY THINGS LIKE, turtle grass, shoal grass, & Manatee grass. & Ever since then it has done wonders for my filtration, reason being these plants absorb NO3 & PO as well as carbon intake through their blades, & root systems.... That being said the tank is relatively small around (20 gallons) However I have noticed considerable biological diversity in this short amount of time, Nudibranchs, sponges, hydroids, tunicates, cnidarians-including jellyfish. As well as bizarre colors in my coral not often seen in these species' ex: MONTIPORA. I have actually had your same problem where I constantly need to add nutrients sometimes. 3,4,5 or even 6 times a day just to keep the filter feeding, as well to keep organisms thriving. In my opinion (pests or not this is a true ecosystem) thank you. I believe I owe RUclips a video to back up these wild observations in due time I suppose. : side note the macro algae does not grow rapidly like most tanks I'm still speculating on this however I believe it is because their process of osmosis cannot collect PO & NO3 as effectively as the vascular pl Take care & thanks

The question was posed by 1stdanclaire: Can you fit a canister filter to this tank? Not without cutting up the lid significantly. The rear removable parts of the lid only go over the built in filter chambers. You would have to either completely destroy the lid or the built-in filter itself by removing it. This tank is designed to only use its own filter chambers. No HOBs or canisters. The only way to fix that is to completely drain and empty the tank. Remove the filter chamber permanently from the back inside wall. Then you will have room in the rear lid opening to use a HOB or with a good deal more DIYing a small canister filter. But why buy a tank with built-in filtering if you just want something else anyway? I can tell you the jury-rigging done by this guy is going to require a lot of DIY and getting new hoses and adapters for the different sizes of hoses. Your chances of a leak go up by about 75% due to all the extra connectors. Not to mention the appearance when done might be functional but very ugly. Most people who buy the Fluval 123L want their tanks to look great without tons of hoses and ugly boxes mounted to the wall. If you want very elaborate filtering like using canisters or HOB or UVCs, don't buy a Fluval 123L. Get you a simple rectangle tank and stand and go from there. Fluval 123ls are not designed to be flexible at all when it comes to using other types of filters. You can add 2 boxes like from In-tank or DFlow to your fluval 123l and have a good pair of filters that hold a good deal of media. You don't need a UVC if you keep your tanks clean, low stocking, and lots of plants. And if you use plant supplements with iron, the UVC will break down that iron so it's not useable to the plants and deposit its waste in the bottom of your tank where it generally becomes toxic. If you use a UVC do it to clear cloudiness due to algae or bacterial outbreaks and then shut it off when you see it's cleared. Any more than a few hours a day can begin to cause other problems in your tank with UVCs. The Fluval 123ls are made to look nice, not to provide non-supported upgrades. If you want customizations, buy a more standardized tank.

I have a 700 litre peninsula tank that I’ve just set up. In between having a load of different clown fish with anemone different breeds of clowns Or different trees of fish but not sure what toad to go. Some suggest something and help me out please

thanks for sharing I lost 4 huge koi due to heat and lack of oxygen corrections were made right away by adding more air in water and doing some major clean ups inside pond and filter

I have a 6 foot aquarium enclosed with 3 lids to make it cat proof, therefore i had to adjust the brackets so they could slide further over the light to rest on 2 glass cross beams under the lids. The downside is that the light controller is very short on the lamp, so the cable should have been 1 foot longer. Other than that, the brichtness and colors are exelent.

I have this on my 5 gallon tank. I don’t use the filter media that comes with it. I used some Matrix media and some coral. I added the coral because I have Blue Dream Neocaridina in the tank along with my Betta. I replaced the pre filter with a better one to protect my shrimp. I have been using it for about 6 months. It does have to be cleaned about once a week. Also you want to keep your tank full or it doesn’t flow well.

That Green Light On The Transformer Has NOTHING Whatsoever To Do With The Functioning Of The U-V Bulb. I Know That For A Fact Because That Green Light Comes On When The Transformer Is Plugged In...EVEN If The U-V Light Itself IS NOT Plugged Into The Transformer. At Best, All That Green Light Signifies Is That The Transformer Is Plugged In...But It Has NOTHING To Do With How The U-V Light Is Functioning...Or Even If The U-V Light Is Functioning At All. Fluval Needs To Update Their Description Of The Purpose Of That Green Light With Some Accurate...And Honest...Information.

1 year later how did this light end up doing with the corals? In need of a light in a pinch to transfer frags from a 14gallon leaking Biocube that's lights also burned out. I'm thinking this cheap light would work well temporarily for a 5gallon rectangle tank of frags until i figure out what to do next.

Bottom feeders for fresh water tanks are great just make sure you change your aquarium around where it looks different so adult fish think they're in a new environment because I had two parrot ciclids and lost both of them without changing the tank environment around. Ciclids are territorial, found that out the hard way. But the bottom feeders did a wonderful job on the aquarium it was spotless. 10 gallons per fish I had a 30 gallon tank one bottom feeder for mine is fine with 2 other fish.

Think the spacer disc is more to keep it level rather than to eliminate vibration. Nice wee filter and good that it comes with the pre-filter sponge. Personally I prefer the Marina Slim range but both of them are transparent. Pretty cool till you start customising them. If you have some black, sponge, bit of green sponge and white filter floss it looks doesn't look so great. Also doesn't look too nice ones the media starts to gather waste. Not everyone is keen on staring at gunk in their filter the whole time.

I use water sprites I just keep let them cover about half of the tank's surface, when they past that, I reduce them to just 1/4 of the tank's surface, usually I keep the baby plants. The cycle starts anew.

This is a good quiet filter, but the wisper hang on back filters are even better.

It's kinda big right enough. Like the potential to customise but not sure I'm loving the mounting clip. If it's as quiet as it seems that's a big plus point though. Not sure it would be the first filter on my list.

Thanks for putting the video together - I have been looking for a skimmer for my shaker. The clearance of the lid runners was my first thought which is why I was looking at the fluval skimmer as they advertise that it stands off from the rim. I notice that at the 6 minute mark when you turn it on and the float gets sucked down it looks like the clearance is not enough and it is then "under the runners" is this the case? I'm still in 2 minds about this or the crystalskim and trying to figure if the clearance is really an issue - any thoughts?

Does seachem flourish cover majority of the nutrients for red algae? The tips of my Pom poms are turning white. Should I dose with some nitrates as well?
